Train crash in Malaga: a driver skipped a stop signal

The collision of two trains at the El Chorro station, in Álora (Málaga), occurred because one of the train drivers “skipped a stop sign.” This is confirmed by the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente. Hours before, Renfe and Adif already pointed to human error as a possible cause of this accident, which left three minor injuries, three of them minors, and forced the evacuation of some 270 passengers.

Following Ayuso’s example is not the best. The Andalusian Public Health under your jurisdiction is what should really concern you. Yesterday two trains collided because one ran a stop signal. The public has already been informed with complete transparency. https://t.co/RacJPx2S3y pic.twitter.com/qcRu7CkBgh

Train accident in Malaga

The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. at the El Chorro-Caminito del Rey station. Two Media Distancia trains, covering the Malaga-Seville route in both directions, collided laterally. One of the trains was stopped on the platform, while the other was entering the station at low speed in a narrow area, resulting in the derailment and partial overturning of the last car of one of the trains, which fortunately was not carrying passengers.

Incident in Setenil de las Bodegas

Curiously, a second derailment, this time without injuries, occurred in Setenil de las Bodegas (Cádiz). A work train, known as a tamping train and used for infrastructure maintenance, suffered an accident due to the breakage of a part during the end of maintenance work, fortunately at a time when there was no passenger train circulation.

These incidents highlight the importance of safety in the rail system and the need for constant surveillance and strict procedures to ensure the safety of passengers and staff. The ongoing investigation aims to identify the exact causes and establish measures to prevent future incidents.
