Ryanair transported 9% more passengers in September and is committed to Spain

Ryanair is in luck. Ireland’s low-cost ‘low-cost’ aircraft transported a total of 17.4 million passengers during the month of September, which is 9% more than during the same month last year. This was reported by the company this Tuesday in a statement reported by Efe. The Dublin-based firm has indicated that its load factor, which is used to measure available seats occupied, remained unchanged at 94%, while it operated 97,350 flights last month.

Since January 2023, Ryanair accumulated 178.9 million passengers transported, 17% more than in the previous period, along with an increase of 4 percentage points in the load factor, up to 94%. Regarding Spain, the company has reported that it has increased the number of aircraft based at the Alicante-Elche airport from seven to nine, where it already has close to 70 routes (a total of 68) with the incorporation of three new destinations. to Warsaw, Budapest and Paderborn (Germany).

Objectives for the Spanish market

The spokesperson for Ryanair in Spain and Portugal, Elena Cabrera, explained to EFE this Tuesday that the increase in aircraft for overnight stays at Alicante’s Miguel Hernández airport reflects the Irish company’s commitment to this destination, the fifth largest in Spain after Madrid. Barcelona, Palma and Malaga. Spain represents Ryanair’s second market after Italy and ahead of the United Kingdom, operating in 27 aerodromes.

The increase from seven to nine aircraft based in Alicante means, in Cabrera’s words, that direct jobs linked to the company in the province increased to 270 among pilots, engineers, cabin and support staff.

Of the nine devices, seven are the so-called ‘Game Changers’, that is, new units manufactured by Boeing that are more environmentally sustainable, emitting 40 percent less noise pollution, consuming a fifth less kerosene and having a 4 percent more capacity for travelers.

This commitment by Ryanair to these devices is part of the objective that 12.5 percent of the fuel used in 2030 be of sustainable origin (SAS type kerosene), a figure much higher than that set by Brussels for that year for the entire airline sector, which is 5 percent.

In addition to the three new routes to Warsaw, Budapest and the German city of Paderborn, Ryanair will increase weekly frequencies to 42 of the 68 destinations from Alicante, which increases activity by 21 percent compared to the winter of a year ago. year, according to Cabrera.

Flight reductions for winter

Last week, the airline led by Michael O’Leary announced that it will make a series of reductions in its flight schedule for the winter, due to delays in the delivery of Boeing model aircraft between September and December.

The adjustments contemplate a cut in the number of aircraft based in Charleroi (Belgium) by three and those in Dublin (Ireland) by two, and five aircraft will also be reduced from the four Italian bases. There will also be fewer planes in East Midlands (United Kingdom), Porto (Portugal) and Cologne (Germany).
