A peculiar story that a group of neighbors have had to live in the Pedregalejo neighborhood, Málaga. And after an intense chirping in the courtyard of the block, they discover that the sound comes from none other than a baby seagull. While they could have let the bird fend for itself as it could, they decided find a solution that also involved the relevant authorities.
As they comment from the media The confidentialthe neighbors finished calling the Local Police of Malaga. However, they ended up encountering a complicated network of calls that did not lead to any fruitful solution.
A baby seagull that ended up causing more trouble than expected
On Monday, May 20, the neighbors called the Local Police, where They were sent to the Malaga Environmental Area telephone number.. When explaining what happened, the person on the other end of the phone tells them that they do not collect baby birds, nor wounded or injured adults since they only remove the nests in their work to control urban birds. When he insists, the institution reiterates that they cannot do anything.
Far from giving up, one of the neighbors contacted an acquaintance who knew about environmental issues, who confirmed the same thing that the institution had stressed to him: “No administration is responsible for collecting a baby seagull.” This acquaintance offered to take the calf to the Municipal Zoosanitary Center, although he warned that “tomorrow he was seeing the rainbow,” referring to the fact that they would surely end up sacrificing her. With this in mind, the options were reduced to the chick finding a life, being adopted by the family, or ending up dead.
Shortly after, they received a call again from the Environmental Area, where they insisted that they had sent an alert to pick up the animal. From the institution they tell them that They have been having notices for a monthso they didn’t know when they would pick it up.
Ultimately, and in order not to sacrifice the calf or leave it to its fate, They decided to locate the nest where it came from. At that moment, the mother of the baby gull begins to squawk and that is when the baby responds. Seagulls tend to be very aggressive, especially when they are in the process of breeding. And this was demonstrated with the attempts to attack and defecate towards the neighbors who only wanted to hand over the calf.
Finally, the calf manages to return to its mother and that’s how this intriguing story ends. El Confidencial contacted the Malaga City Council, who stated that there was no order to stop collecting seagull babies.
According to the institution, the citizen service of the Environmental Area has the obligation to forward the request to collect seagulls in yards to the bird control company, for which they attributed it to a “possible specific error.” 16 days after the notice was givena control service worker contacted the neighbor, but it was too late.
