I personally have come to opt for other alternatives throughout the year, but 2023 has ended up becoming a golden era for google maps app. News is important and that is why she has once again become my favorite.

However, there are many users, including myself, who wanted something that went beyond what is usual for the American company. And the time has come.

It is clear that, over the last few years, Google Maps has revolutionized the way we move through the streets of our city or other places we visit. Features like Live View are something that helps people a lot when scrolling, but it’s something that doesn’t make a huge difference compared to other similar platforms, like Apple Music. This is why Google Maps has decided to become the best map app for smartphones thanks to AI. These are the most important news they have arrived:
- Immersive route view: This new option when finding your way to a destination allows you to see the Complete tour from a realistic 3D view and even modify the time and weather to observe the traffic simulation and weather forecast. At the moment it is only available in Barcelona, although it hopes to expand to the rest of Spain soon.
- Lenses in Maps– The search bar includes the Google Lens icon to use your mobile camera and point to any place on the street to find real-time information about public transportation, restaurants and shops around you, among other data. It can be used in Barcelona and Madrid, although it will be extended in the same way as the previous feature.
These two options have been key to changing my opinion about Google Maps as the best map app. It is true that availability is still not that great, but it is a great advance that could soon reach other large cities in Spain, such as Seville, Malaga or Valencia.
Another interesting feature
One of the surprises of Google Maps throughout 2023 is also related to the immersive view, but not of routes. This is a function that shows in 3D some of the historical monuments of our country with extreme realism, something that serves as a kind of virtual visit. In fact, there are some places that allow viewing inside the building or construction.
You just have to look for an emblematic place in a city, such as the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. At the bottom, next to the images, the function should appear Immersive View. Tap on it and you can move around it, as well as observe the restaurants around you or move throughout the city. A very easy to use and truly interesting option.
